Thinking on Corrugate
At this point I had a material. But the idea still eluded me. I wanted to make a landscape, but of what? Did I even really want to make a landscape? to use cardboard? I had no idea yet, so, as all great ideas start, I began doodling.
A few ideas stuck out to me immediately. I liked the idea of manga panels, hanging from the ceiling, allowing for the character to literally move as the page is read. I was really happy about the binoculars and leaf idea. It would have been extremely disorienting if someone knew that both the leaf and the binoculars were made up of paper, yet when you stared into the binoculars you would be able to see a detailed version of the leaf, creating the illusion it's all real. finally, I liked the idea of a world being built. It would utilize the contrast between cardboard-stacking and paper-folding to breathe life into the paper builders. I liked all of these ideas but couldn't really pick one. each had their own feeling of greatness within them, but it felt like something was missing. Like it was not practical enough. I had struggled with this for quite some time, however, when I was done with my Tuesday DnD session, I realized that the idea was right in front of me. "I'll make a physical version of the world map". That decision started it
Meet the Riziopia Region of my Dungeons and Dragons world, Khaytia. Upon a dodecahedron is a landscape map of The Region, lined with a blue light to simulate the Ley lines. Each region will be airbrushed and painted to breath even further life into the map. This idea was exciting. I was ready to start. Now I just needed to model it.
